A section of Atlanta Medical Center to be used as a temporary homeless shelter

After over a year of being closed Mayor Andre Dickens to put it to use

Atlanta, Georgia – Just a few weeks ago Atlanta mayor, Andre Dickens, shared how he felt there was a lack of available homeless shelters in the city of Atlanta. Because many available shelters have so many stipulations in place (women only, women with kids and etc) in order to receive service. Many within Atlanta’s homeless community go without receiving any type of assistance.

Since the August 2017 closing of downtown Atlanta’s Taskforce for the Homeless on Peachtree/Pine. There has not been an open community for the homeless to go to. Homeless residents have been forced to take shelter underneath overpasses, tunnels, and public parks and more.

The Atlanta Medical Center was closed down over a year ago and has not had any life since. Dickens’s office has announced that a section of the Atlanta Medical Center will be used as a temporary shelter. Several local news outlets such as 11 Atlanta is reporting that the athletic club of the Atlanta Medical Center will be used as the homeless shelter.
