The family of Dead has started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his funeral cost. A relative of Dead, Kyonna Taylor shared on the GoFundMe page:

Hello, the family of James J. Dean is trying to raise money to help pay for his funeral arrangements. In the early morning of Friday 2/17/23 around 12:30 am in Decatur Ga, James was fatally shot, Robbed and Killed while standing at the Marta Bus stop waiting to go home. He was approached by 2 men and he tried to run away and they shot him, went through his pockets and ran. Some of our family was able to see the video of the crime and we are devastated. These boys should be off the streets because if they did this to him they would do this to anyone!!! Unfortunately James didn’t have life insurance and we need financial help with preparing his arrangements. We appreciate anything that you are willing and able to give to help with this. If anyone would like to contact me directly please feel free to do so. We plan on having his funeral this up coming week. Thank you in Advance!!
