Autoworker shot and killed at work

The customer mistook the autoworker for a car thief and shot him

Decatur, Georgia – An employee of the Tires Plus at 577 Industrial Way lost his life while at work on New Year’s Eve because a customer mistook him for a car thief.

Daniel Gordon, 24, was retrieving a vehicle to be serviced when the customer, Quadarius McDowell, 30, suspected him of trying to steal his car. McDowell approached his vehicle firing shots as Gordon tried driving the vehicle around the parking lot. Gordon was reportedly shot several times. Gordon was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

DeKalb authorities were called to the scene and McDowell tried fleeing on foot, but was later caught without any further incident. McDowell is currently being held in DeKalb County jail and has been charged with murder.

A friend of Gordon’s spoke with WSBTV and shared with them that Gordon had just started working at Tires Plus this past summer, and was excited to be there, “It’s a sad day. You can’t even call this a wrong place at the wrong time type of situation because literally you’re at work, said the friend.” The friend goes on to say, “You can’t even feel safe at work. It’s just it’s sad.”
