Seventeen-year-old surrenders to Fulton County Jail months after the fatal incident
An arrest has finally brought a measure of accountability to a tragedy that pierced the heart of Atlanta’s local celebrations months ago.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, 17-year-old Kaine Burnette surrendered to the Fulton County Jail, facing charges connected to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Tianah Robinson.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 4—widely celebrated locally as “404 Day”—roughly an hour after the 404 Festival concluded in a different section of Piedmont Park. Robinson had been spending the evening hanging out with friends when a confrontation broke out among a group of young people around 9:00 p.m.
Gunfire erupted amid the chaos, sending park visitors scrambling for safety. Robinson was struck and tragically died at the scene. Another teenager, a 15-year-old, was also wounded in the shooting but survived.
Investigators had previously sought the public’s help in tracking down multiple individuals connected to the case. With Burnette’s surrender, the investigation reaches a critical milestone as the community continues to grapple with the senseless violence that marred a day meant to celebrate the city.
