A $54 million bakery expansion creates 135 local jobs and boosts Oakwood’s economic prospects

Oakwood, Georgia On a warm summer morning in Oakwood, Georgia, King’s Hawaiian officially marked one of its most significant milestones: a $54 million investment to expand its bakery facility, enhancing production and creating 135 new jobs for the region. The family-owned bakery brand, famous nationwide for its signature sweet rolls, is deepening its roots in Hall County as it responds to growing demand.

The expansion will increase the bakery’s footprint to a projected 150,000 square feet and introduce a new production line, with operations scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The project is seen as a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to Georgia, where it has maintained a presence since 2010, supporting more than 800 jobs in the state over the years.

King’s Hawaiian has partnered with local workforce agencies and technical colleges, such as Lanier Technical College and Georgia Quick Start, to recruit and train employees for new positions ranging from skilled bakers to logistics coordinators. Governor Brian P. Kemp and King’s Hawaiian CEO Mark Taira both praised the effort, citing its role in boosting the local economy and offering stable employment to area residents.

Local officials, including the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, stress that the expansion will strengthen Oakwood’s business environment and contribute to increased activity across nearby restaurants, suppliers, and small businesses. The announcement has sparked optimism across the community, with leaders and stakeholders anticipating lasting economic benefits.

By expanding its Oakwood facility, King’s Hawaiian is not only increasing production capacity but also helping to shape the future of Georgia’s food manufacturing sector.

CEO Mark Taira shared, “this expansion represents a major milestone in our journey, and we’re thrilled to continue growing our ohana in Hall County,” said Mark Taira, chief executive officer of King’s Hawaiian.”
