“First Day Fulton” initiative offers 15% utility bill savings for families with perfect first-week attendance

College Park, Georgia – The College Park school district in Georgia is taking bold steps to address potential staffing and funding challenges for the upcoming school year. In a new initiative called “First Day Fulton,” the district is offering an incentive to encourage full student attendance during the first week of classes, from August 4 to August 11.

Through this program, households in the district whose children attend school every day during the first week will receive a 15% discount on their August utility bill. The goal is to motivate families to prioritize attendance, ensuring that schools receive the staffing and funding necessary for a successful academic year.

First-week attendance figures are critical, as school funding and staffing allocations are often based on the number of students present during this period. Absenteeism during this time—whether due to late registration, extended vacations, or other reasons—can lead to decreased funding and fewer teachers, resulting in larger class sizes and strained resources.

By offering a tangible financial benefit, College Park hopes to promote full student attendance from day one, supporting both families and schools as they embark on the new year.
