Jimmy Carter to start receiving hospice care

At the age of 98, James (Jimmy) Earl Carter, Jr, is the nation’s oldest living president. After leaving the White House over 42 years ago as the nation’s 39th president, Carter has been involved in many community outreach projects not only in the United States, but also across seas.

Since 2015, Carter has been facing a number of health scares that have slowed him down greatly. Now after receiving hospital care, Carter has decided to stop receiving treatment and spend the rest of his days with family and friends.

The Atlanta-based Carter Center released the following statement via its website:

After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.
