Vernon Jones must pay a former constituent over $45k for blocking him on Facebook

DeKalb County, Georgia – Former DeKalb County CEO and House representative has learned that he can only block friends and family on his personal Facebook page, and not constituents that he represents from his fan page.

Atlanta’s WSB-TV is reporting that a federal judge has ordered Jones to pay $45,652 in damages from a 2020 exchange of words on Jones’s fan page that resulted in him blocking Tomas Miko, and deleting the exchange. Miko later sued Jones in federal court, and U.S. District Judge Stephen Grimberg said that Jones displayed a form of “viewpoint discrimination” by blocking his constituent from accessing his social media profile and expressing his opposing views.

On Tuesday, the judge ordered Jones to pay $8,000 to Miko and $45,652 to Miko’s attornies for legal fees.
