Fulton County Superior Court overturns Georgia’s 6-week abortion ban

Atlanta, Georgia – As the entire county locks itself into a raging battle over abortion rights. A Fulton County Superior Court Judge, Robert McBurney, has made the decision to overturn Georgia’s 2019 HB481 law.

Also known as Georgia’s LIFE Act, HB481 prevents abortions as early as six weeks, normally a time when a lot of women are not aware that they are pregnant, forcing them to keep the child regardless of their reasons for not wanting to keep it.

Judge McBurney’s decision restores abortion rights available again within the state of Georgia for women that are pregnant up to 20 weeks. Governor Brian Kemp has reportedly filed an appeal and a representative of his office provided the AJC with the following statement, “The state has already filed a notice of appeal, and we will continue to fight for the lives of Georgia’s unborn children.”
